Older forms of English kept Latin’s gender-specific suffixes -tor and -trix; tor is for men and trix is for women. So a male pilot is an aviator, a female pilot is an aviatrix. A male fighter is a gladiator, a female fighter is a gladiatrix.
This contrasts with the modern system, where tor is for both men and women, and trix are for kids.
So I’m a barista at barstucks and this guy comes through every fucking morning and gets an iced latte but has told us multiple times he refuses
To pay the latte price because we are “stealing his money” (first off, YOU decide to come here and get coffee we don’t FORCE you) so he mobile orders a doppio espresso in a medium cup, light ice, extra milk, and whatever flavor he wants and it comes out to two dollars cheaper give or take some change…. he mobile orders because he knows we won’t do it, we charge for a latte because if we don’t we get in trouble. This is annoying on its own but what really makes me angry is my manager explained to him one morning (because he forgot to mobile order and ordered it in person) that it’s a latte if he gets that much milk and we have to charge him for a latte and he argued for TEN MINUTES in our drive through line about how it’s not a latte. My manager finally said we can keep
Making it how he wants but not light ice and the guy agreed and said fine, put how much ice normally comes in an iced espresso! So now I pack it full of ice and he gets like half the milk he used to. It might be petty but I hate when people complain about our prices and try to cheat the system… there are plenty of coffee shops that are cheaper, go there or pay full price. I’m not getting in trouble because you don’t want to pay
